Judith K. “Jude” Atwood, age 58, of Jasper, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2020, at home.
Jude was born in Jasper, on September 22, 1961, to Maurice and Lorraine (Striegel) Buechlein. She married Robert Atwood on September 29, 1984, in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.
She was a 1979 graduate of Jasper High School and a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.
Jude loved children and working with them, especially special needs children. She was a para-educator for the Olathe, Kansas, School System, a Girl Scout Leader and a religious education leader in Olathe, Kansas and in Jasper. She also enjoyed gardening and camping. She loved all holidays, but especially loved winter time and Christmas, and making sentimental personalized Christmas ornaments. Additionally, her appetite for steamed Maryland Blue Crabs was legendary on the East Coast.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Atwood, Jasper; three children, Brian Atwood, Quincy, IL, Carolyn (Matthew) Willis, Winslow and Rachel Atwood, Jasper; five grandchildren, Skylar Atwood, Brittney, Danielle, Richard and Jami Willis; her mother, Lorraine Buechlein, Jasper; three sisters, Deb (Phil) Fischer, Huntingburg, Mary “Sue” (Mike) Gogel, Dale and Diane (Mark) Brescher, Ireland; and two brothers, Joe Buechlein, and Daniel (Dana) Buechlein, both of Jasper.
Preceding her in death was her father, Maurice Buechlein.
A Memorial Mass for Judith K. “Jude” Atwood will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 2, in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
A visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Masks and social distancing will be required.
