Larry Hart Snyder, 84, of Grandview, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.

Larry was born in Spencer County on April 5, 1937, to the late Walter and Gracie (Hart) Snyder.

Larry was a graduate of Rockport High School. He was employed by Whirlpool Corp. in Evansville and was part of the construction crew that built what is now known as Diamond Avenue in Evansville. He was a concrete engineer at the Newburgh Lock and Dam, worked as an inspector at AEP, and had worked for the Spencer County Highway Department.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and was very active in local politics since the age of 16. He served 66 years as a Precinct Committeeman for Spencer County GOP.

Larry was involved either behind the scenes or as an assistant coach for the Rockport American Legion Post 254 baseball team for over 40 years. Also, he was an assistant coach for the South Spencer High School baseball team for 10-plus years. He was elected into the National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 and The Greater Evansville Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016. He had also earned the Arlie Skelton Memorial Award for his contributions and dedication to American Legion Baseball.

Larry loved the game of baseball and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, as well as a fan of IU basketball. He loved attending any South Spencer High School sporting event and watching his daughters and grandchildren compete in athletics. There was absolutely no place in Spencer County or the tristate area where Larry didn’t recognize someone he knew or someone didn’t recognize him because of baseball or sports in general.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Edie (Cravens) Snyder; his youngest daughter, Faith Snyder-List; his grandson, Clayton Bunner; and his brother, Theodore “Ted” Snyder.

Larry is survived by his oldest daughter, Jane (Snyder) Bunner of Washington, his second daughter, Sandy Snyder of Grandview; his grandchildren, Kris Snyder of Evansville, and Taylor (Bunner) Smith of Washington; his great granddaughter, Khloe Snyder of Evansville; his sister, Ruth Wagoner of Evansville; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Dr. Jack Eberhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation is 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, September 17, and from 12 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
