The Marching Rebels have brought quite a show to the field this season, and will soon be taking it to the 2023 ISSMA Semi-State Competition at Franklin Community High School Saturday, October 21. This year’s performance is “And Down the Stretch They Come!”, putting students in the role of jockeys and steeds as they bring the thrill of a racetrack to the field via music and carefully coordinated choreography.

The band’s hard work putting the show together has apparently paid off in spades, propelling them to a Gold Rating and Distinction in Music at the October 7 Regional Competition. In fact, they were one of only two programs to receive Distinction in Music lauds, and finished at the top for general effect.

“The South Spencer Marching Rebels have been on an upward trajectory all season,” said Band Director Gregory Keith. “In my 16 years, I’ve never had a group improve so much over the course of the season. We constantly preach to the kids, to ‘trust the process,’ and since they have bought in, results have started taking care of themselves.”
