Mary Catherine Vogel, 86, of Rockport, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2021 at the Linda E. White Hospice Center.

Catherine was born on December 13, 1935 in Louisville, Kentucky.

After graduating from Tell City High School, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Albert Vogel, on July 24, 1954. Larry and Catherine moved to his Rockport home where their children, Jeff and Jenny, were born. She and her husband owned and operated Vogel Seed Farm where she had served as secretary since 1956.

Catherine was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and Tri-Kappa, where she held many offices, including the State Officer of Fine Arts.

Catherine was an avid gardener who meticulously curated her yard, and especially treasured her heirloom peonies and rose garden. She was an accomplished seamstress, crafter, and loved needlework. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Larry. Catherine had a passion for cooking and gathering for holiday traditions. She was always the most gracious hostess and cherished time together with family and friends. Catherine very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and was always there to support or cheer them on. Being a “Grammie” brought great joy to her life. She will always be known for her contagious laugh.

In her later years, she loved going on road trips and enjoying meals with her companion, Charlie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Albert Vogel, an infant son, and her father and mother, Charles and Marie White.

Catherine is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Karen) Vogel and Jennifer (Kyle) Wilkerson; her grandchildren, Eric (Valerie) Vogel, Lauren (Adam) Hurm, Emily (Chad) Morgan, and Alex Wilkerson; 8 great grandchildren; her sister, Judy (Scott) Widmer; her brother, Randy (Terri) White; several nieces and nephews; her companion, Charlie Jessee.

Services are 1 p.m. Friday, December 31, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Jill Kaetzel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Lamar.

Visitation is 2 until 7 p.m., Thursday, December 30, and 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
