Paddle Perry to hold first annual Cardboard Boat Race in Tell City

Ahoy! The first annual Cardboard Boat Race at the Hoosier Heights Country Club in Tell City is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4. The race is being sponsored by Paddle Perry.

Cardboard boats will race on a 200 yard course for two rounds, and at least one person will captain his or her boat.

The crafts can only be made of corrugated cardboard, duct tape, glue/construction adhesive and spray paint — the boats cannot be made totally of duct tape, and the use of wood, metal, plastic, foam or fiberglass is strictly prohibited.

Individuals or teams are welcome and the event will be a great team-building experience for both young and old.

Boaters are encouraged to set a theme and to name their vessel. Costumes are welcome. All participants will be required to wear a personal flotation device during the race.

Registration will begin at 5 p.m. CDT at the Country Club. The races will feature two divisions — one for ages 11-17 and another for ages 18 and older. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each division for the most creative boat, the first to sink and the overall winner.

A $5 fee in cash is required at registration.

For information on how to build a cardboard boat, instructional videos can be found on Paddle Perry’s Facebook page.
