Reverend Carl Anthony Roos, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away in Indianapolis on April 3, 2022. He was born on March 31, 1942, in Celestine, to Veronica Magdalene (Schnell) Roos and Harry Peter Roos.

A life-long learner, Carl attended St. Meinrad Seminary for high school and college and attended Theology School at Canisianum, in Innsbruck, Austria. He continued his education at Indiana University, earning post-graduate degrees in Adult Education and Counseling.

As a Chaplain and officer in the Army National Guard, he completed 13 years of service and held the rank of Major.

Carl loved playing team sports. He was a fierce competitor on the football field, basketball court, and baseball diamond. In his youth he worked hard, played a lot of ball, fished for bluegill, hiked country roads and sang songs. He had a special love of nature.

He retired from active ministry in the Diocese of Indianapolis in 2006. His retirement brought great pleasure in playing golf with his brothers at courses across southern Indiana.

He was known for his exceptional wit and sense of humor and for his gentleness and kindness to others. He had a devout faith in God and lived to serve Him throughout his entire life, first as a Catholic Priest for 19 years for the Diocese of Evansville and then as a Parish Priest for 16 years in the Diocese of Indianapolis and in the Diocese of Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Roos; one son, Carl Peter Roos; his siblings, Lillian Beckman, Dr. Marie Roos, Anne Roos, Victor C. (Betty Roos) and Richard (Jenny) Roos; many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Father Paul Roos and Leona Roos, and his brother-in-law, Maurice Beckman.

A Celebration of Life and Fellowship Meal for Reverend Carl Anthony Roos was held on April 12 at Mary Help of Christians Church’s Fellowship Hall in Mariah Hill.
