Rowena Waninger, 91, of Troy, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026.
Rowena was born January 5, 1935, in Perry County to Carl and Lorene (Hagedorn) Harpenau. She was united in marriage with William Waninger on September 19, 1956, in Saint John’s Catholic Church in New Boston.
Rowena loved to cook and bake. She often baked peanut brittle for Saint Meinrad Archabbey. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and being with her grandkids.
Rowena was a member of St. Meinrad Parish.
Surviving are sons Stanley Waninger of Troy, Daniel (Kimberly) Waninger of Mariah Hill, and David (Melissa) Waninger of Troy; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Waninger; her parents; brother, Tony Harpenau; sisters Margret Davis and Bert Meunier; and daughter-in-law Raven Waninger.
A mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, April 23, in St. Meinrad Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
