Driver strikes stop sign

Clarence Smith, 56, of Bowling Green, KY, was attempting to turn left onto SR 161 from SR 66 near Rockport when, he later told police, he turned too soon and struck the stop sign post at the intersection. Smith was not injured in the October 21, 4:40 p.m. accident. Damages were estimated between $2,500-5,000.

Ran off road

Martin Cook, 42, of Owensboro, KY, was northbound on CR 400 W near Rockport when, he later told authorities, he swerved to avoid a deer that had entered in the roadway, causing him to run off the road and strike an embankment. His 2011 Chevrolet Silverado then came to rest in a ditch. Cook was not injured in the October 17, 2:50 p.m. run-off, but damage to his vehicle was estimated between $2,500-5,000.

Driver injured in accident

Audrey Cockrum, 19, of Rockport, was southbound on Fulda Shortcut Road when she lost control of her 1998 Honda CRV while rounding a curve on the wet roadway. Her vehicle began to skid sideways before flipping over and rolling an estimated two or three times. The Honda landed on its wheels on the east side of the roadway. Cockrum was transported to Owensboro Hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries she sustained in the October 20, 5:45 a.m. accident. Her passenger, 19-year-old Steven Blair of Chrisney, was treated at the scene for minor bleeding. Damage to Cockrum’s vehicle was estimated between $2,500-5,000. 

Right turn collision on 231

Travis Young, 26, of Paducah, KY, was pulling out of the AK Steel Plant parking lot in Rockport when, he later told authorities, the gears slipped on his 2016 Kenworth T600, causing him to enter the path of a 2020 Kenworth T660 driven by 41-year-old Bradley Smith of Rochester, who was traveling northbound on 231. Neither driver was injured in the October 20, 10:09 a.m. collision, and total damage was estimated to be under $1,000.

Backing accident

Brett Banks, 61, of Grandview, was backing out of the Grandview Aluminum parking lot when he struck a southbound 2014 Ford Escort driven by 24-year-old Lindsay Galloway of French Lick. Banks told authorities he did not see Galloway’s vehicle before the accident occurred. Neither driver was injured in the October 21, 1:59 p.m. accident. Total damages were estimated between $2,500-5,000.

Driver cited after accident

Timothy Meredith, 52, of Evansville, was northbound on CR 900 W when, he later told authorities, the back tire on his 1997 Ford F150 blew out, causing him to lose control and drive off the right side of the roadway and down into an embankment. According to the report, Meredith and his passenger (both of whom were uninjured) left the scene without contacting authorities. The accident was reported to the Sheriff’s Department by a passerby, and an investigation into the accident was conducted. Meredith later contact the Sheriff and advised he did not have any insurance on the truck, for which he was issued a citation. Total damages in the October 8, 12:10 p.m. accident were estimated between $5,000-10,000.

Both drivers transported to hospital after collision

Devin Embry, 19, of Richland, was attempting to make a left turn into Marvins Fireworks in Rockport when his 2004 Ford Escape was struck from behind by a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by 36-year-old Stephanie Wood of Owensboro. The impact caused Embry’s car to run off the roadway and into an embankment. Both drivers and a passenger in Wood’s vehicle were injured in the collision and transported to the hospital for treatment. Total damages were estimated between $10,000-25,000.

Head-on collision

William Sanders, 52, of Troy, was southbound on Fulda Shortcut Road when, he later told police, his 1998 Ford Escort fish-tailed, causing him to lose control and cross the centerline, at which point he struck a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by 55-year-old David Whalen of Tell City. The impact caused Whalen’s vehicle to run off the roadway. Neither driver was injured in the October 22, 5:15 a.m. collision. Total damages were estimated between $2,500-5,000.

Rear-ends garbage truck

Erica Bolin, 43, of Santa Claus, was westbound on SR 162 in Gentryville when, she later told police, she became distracted and rear-ended a parked Mack Advanced Disposal garbage truck. Bolin sustained scrapes in the collision but refused EMS assessment. The driver of the Advanced Disposal truck, Jonathan Englehardt, was outside the truck collecting garbage cans at the time of the accident and was not injured. Total damages in the October 21, 5:22 a.m. collision were estimated between $25,000-50,000.
