On Saturday, November 2, Spencer County CASA will host a Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction at the Spencer County 4-H Center, Chrisney. Doors open at 5 p.m. Limited seating is available for the event. Tickets are $30 per person, which includes appetizers, dinner and dessert.

Tickets may be purchased at SpencerCountyCASA.org, or checks may be sent to Spencer County CASA, P.O. Box 133, Rockport, with attendees names listed. The event will include a silent and a live auction of many donated items.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate — volunteers who serve as the voice of abused and neglected children in court. Currently, 97 children throughout Spencer County are served by CASA volunteers. In 2018, Spencer County CASA served 224 kids and are on track to serve just as many in 2019. Because there are still 23 children on the CASA wait list, volunteers are constantly recruiting, training and swearing in new advocates.

Spencer County CASA is a non-profit organization and a non-funded State mandate. The state requires every child to have a voice in court, but the State is not required to fund the provision. The Spencer County CASA program receives some funds from the State along with a county match, however, the majority of expenses are paid by raising money through private donations, church donations, grant writing, corporate sponsorships and fundraising.
