Thomas Allen “T.A.” Schaefer, 47, of Chrisney, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at his home.
Thomas was born in Huntingburg on November 1, 1977, to Vernie T. Schaefer and Peggy (Poellein) Belkoski.
He was a graduate of Heritage Hills High School and had served in the United States Marine Corps.
Thomas enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Lena, more than anything else in the world. He also loved to cook and do woodworking in his spare time. He loved Heritage Hills Football and was currently rebuilding the motor of his dream car, a GMC Yukon. He could light up a room with his smile, was always a help to those around him, and thoroughly enjoyed tormenting his family and friends.
Thomas was a heavy equipment operator with IUOE Local 181 for 21 years and a member of Dale American Legion Post 444.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernie T. Schaefer, and his grandparents.
Thomas is survived by his daughter, Lena Schaefer and her mother, Nedra; his mother and stepfather, Peggy and Greg Belkoski; his sister, Jamie Chapman and her husband, Jason; his nieces Brenna Daniel (Travis) and Emily Chapman (Zach); his uncle, Mike Schaefer and his wife, Susan; his aunts, Nora Beckort and her husband, Wayne, Diana Haynes and her husband, Robert, and Paulita Mickey and her husband, Hershel; his stepmother, Jenny Schaefer; his many union brothers and Marine family, as well as many other extended family and friends.
Services were held Tuesday, September 23, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Jason Johns officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chrisney.
