Pioneer life by Candlelight

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial held its first Candlelight Evening event Friday evening, October 18. Lanterns marked the trail from the picnic shelter at the north parking lot to the Living Historical Farm, showing the limits of night evening travel during Lincoln’s time. Interpreters in period clothing brought the farm to life with activities for Junior Rangers, including corn husk doll making, reading by the fire, and a cooking demonstration. Interpreter Paula Alexander showed one family from Louisville how to make pioneer style macaroni and cheese, based on a recipe from an 1822 cookbook. Kids even got a chance to roll noodles to give them their signature edges, to better hold sauces. Keep an eye out for future candlelight events at the Living Historical Farm as the days grow shorter.
