Amy Renea Durham was born August 14, 1981 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, to Charles Robert Durham and Margie Kay Ray (Craig). But Greenfield was just where Amy drew her first breath, the first step in her 44 year journey.
Amy’s life took her to many places. From Greenfield to Fortville to Barlow, Kentucky before coming back home to Indiana where she lived in Indianapolis until moving to Rockport in the early 2000s. She was a survivor. A force of nature. And while her life was fraught with hardship, Amy did not let those challenges define her. Rather, Amy used those obstacles to catapult her to a place of success, a place in her life that she was proud of.
Amy worked in dietary at Miller’s Merry Manor-The Waters of Rockport before transitioning to the Dollar General Store in Rockport. There, she would often come in on her days off and pick up extra shifts as needed. Co-workers and customers alike expressed heartfelt concern when Amy had to step back from her duties due to her health. These sentiments touched Amy deeply and she never forgot about them.
Amy loved movies and TV. She’d seen every Scream, Final Destination, and Fast and the Furious movie in their franchises. Charmed was Amy’s favorite comfort show. She was also a fan of Netflix’s Cobra Kai, as well as old school 80s television shows like The Facts of Life. And she could always be seen enjoying these things with a bottle of Mt. Dew in her hand and a cigarette in her mouth.
Her greatest accomplishment in life was her daughter, Carter Lynn “Chelsey” Durham. She was the proud aunt to Sarah Norris, Ashley Norris, and Cody (Lauren) Norris. An even prouder great-aunt to Liam Weddle, Harper Norris, Lukas Weddle, and one soon to be niece or nephew yet to be named. A child who will grow up knowing they are being watched over by the force of nature that was their Great-Aunt Amy.
A host of souls were waiting to reunite with Amy on the other side of Glory, beginning with her father, Charles Robert “Bob” Durham. Amy is also reunited with her maternal grandparents, Fred and Iva Craig, her uncle Richard “Dick” Craig, cousins Julie Conn and Korena McDonald (Carnes), as well as a number of other loved ones—Randy Miles, Kevin Snider, Kathy Kelly and Tyler Simondiski—who were all waiting to welcome Amy into eternity.
Amy is survived by a number of friends and family who will miss her terribly, though none so much as her mother, Margie Ray (Craig), her big sister, Angela Norris (Durham), and her big brother Robert “Robbie” Durham. And while our grief is insurmountable in this moment, our hearts are full for the time we shared with this beautiful soul and that she is now at peace.
We love you, Amy. Fly high.
In lieu of a funeral, the family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
