Michael Allen “Mike” Knight passed away in the early morning of Friday, April 3, 2026, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Mike was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville on November 27, 1954, to Charles and Catherine Knight. He was a 1972 graduate of Bosse High School. He married Sheryle Chandler on September 13, 1975, and celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.
Mike retired in December of 2023 after 49 years from Deaconess Midtown; he worked in engineering and maintenance.
Mike loved to fish, garden and camp with his family, especially his grandsons. He loved his grandsons with his whole heart and tried to never miss their sporting or academic events — he was their biggest fan! Mike also loved IU basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. Mike was always outside tinkering in his pole barn, working on woodworking projects and enjoying the land that he and his wife called home. Being outside was his happy place and he enjoyed the simple things in life.
Above all, Mike loved Jesus. He attended New Hope General Baptist Church in Boonville. Mike battled several health issues throughout his life, especially over the last two years. His faith never wavered; it only grew stronger. His last days were spent with family and friends, praising Jesus with song, reading through the Psalms and praying — he prayed for everyone, hours on end. He never once complained or felt sorry for himself; he was thankful and grateful until he took his last breath. He was so brave!
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carla Franklin and Debra DeMuth; and his second parents, Wade and Willa Chandler.
Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheryle; two daughters, Me’Chele (Brad) Fuller and Mindy (Juan) Dill; and three grandsons, Jordan and Jacob Fuller and Justin Dill.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. A special thanks to Mike’s nurse, Candice and Heart to Heart Hospice for their exceptional care and support. Special thanks to Jeff and Laurie Freeman and Tracy Chandler for their help, love and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at New Hope General Baptist Church at 1900 Lashbrook Road in Boonville, with Pastor Randy Chandler and Pastor Brad Fuller officiating. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heart to Heart Hospice at 610 E Walnut Street, Suite A, Evansville, IN 47713.
