A beginner’s sewing class (level 1) will be offered at Traditional Arts Today, located at 314 W. 9th Street in Ferdinand, on Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. EDT. The class is designed for anyone wanting to get started in the craft of sewing or needs a quick refresher course. Deb Souders and Patti Schroeder will lead the class. The fee to participate is $30, and advance payment is required to secure a spot in the class (stop by Traditional Arts Today or call 812-998-2487 to provide your billing info and to register). 

University of Evansville Theatre will present COLUMBINUS, by the United States Theatre Project, Stephen Karam, and PJ Paparelli. Motivated by the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School, this searing blend of fact and fiction is a powerful piece about the simmering rage in American adolescents that continues to bubble over and cause mass destruction even 20 years past that tragic day. COLUMBINUS opens at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 23, in the May Studio Theatre. Additional performances are 7:30 p.m. on March 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 and at 2 p.m. on March 29. Tipsy Lucky Leprechaun Girls Night Out Wine and Bingo will be held Monday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Auxiliary Kapperman Unit 44 in Newburgh. Doors open at 4 p.m. Cost is $15 per pack (all games included). A cash bar will be available, and the kitchen will be open with a limited menu. Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville is currently presenting Saturday Night Fever the Musical through March 29. This musical adaptation of the popular 1970s film tells the story of a talented, streetwise kid from Brooklyn who attempts to escape his dead-end life through dance. Church News

Historic St. Boniface Parish, Fulda, will serve fish dinners on Friday, March 13 at the St. Boniface Parish Center from 3-7 p.m. Dinners are $10 each and include two boneless fish filets, German fries, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, slaw, bread, dessert and drink. Other menu item includes a fish sandwich for $4 each. Patrons can dine in or carry out. Proceeds will benefit the facilities of St. Boniface Parish Center.

Mary Help of Christian Church in Mariah Hill will serve Lenten fish dinners (with Swai fish) on Friday, March 13 from 4-7 p.m. Meals are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

The Ladies Sodality of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston will hold their annual rummage sale in the St. John Chrysostom Church hall on Friday, March 13 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, March 14 from 7 a.m.-12 p.m. 

Eternal Vision will be in concert at Old Friendship Church this Saturday, March 14. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. Old Friendship Church is located four miles east of Hwy. 61 on Hwy 68 in Lynville. Everyone is invited.

St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus will serve Lenten fish dinners (grilled salmon) on Friday, March 20 from 4-7 p.m. Meals are $12 per person.

Triduum and Easter at the Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand will take place April 9-12. This is a silent retreat that will include participation in an Agape meal and the rituals of the liturgical celebration with the Monastic community. Attendees will immerse themselves in the sacred days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and the Resurrection Eucharist celebration on Easter morning with the sisters in the Monastery chapel. Registration begins Thursday, April 9 at 4 p.m. The weekend will end Sunday, April 12 at 10 a.m. All times are Eastern. Cost is $350 and includes overnights and meals. Community Table, a mission ministry of Dale Presbyterian Church, serves a free meal year round, every Thursday evening except holidays, at the Micah Center, 6 North Main St. in Dale. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., meal served 5:30-6:30 p.m., doors close at 7 p.m.

District 18 of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association will meet Thursday, March 19 at St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Dale. Hosted by the Carter Fire District, the meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the business session will begin at 7 p.m. 

Kiwanis Club of South Spencer meets at Angelo’s Pizza every Tuesday from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

Health and wellness

A Red Cross blood drive will be held Sunday, March 15 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus. All blood types, especially type O, are urgently needed. Spencer County Council on Aging provides a SWIRCA meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday in the Lincoln Manor Community Room, 714 Sycamore St., Rockport. Suggested donation is $3.50 for those 60 and older. Food stamps are accepted. Reservations must be called in 24 hours in advance at 812-649-9828. The meal site is closed on Fridays. Activities such as bingo and games are scheduled throughout the month after lunch.

• Patrons 18 and older are invited to Bingo for Books at the library next Monday, March 16 from 6-7 p.m. Prizes will be books and library-related items. This is a free event, but registration is appreciated by calling the library. 

• Lego Builders Club will meet Tuesday, March 17 from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Kids of all ages are invited to participated.

• The next Homeschool Thursday will be held March 19 from 1-2:30 p.m. This program is open to local homeschool families with kids 2-18 years old, and is a time for homeschool families to meet, connect and socialize with one another. 

• The Undergrounds Book Store, located in the library’s basement, will be open for business Saturday, March 21 from 9-12:45 p.m. Hardcover books are $1, trade paperbacks and mass market paperbacks are $0.50, magazines are $0.25 or five for $1, CDs are $1, DVDs and audio-books are $3, and children’s books range from $0.50-$1. Both cash and checks will be accepted. Cookies and beverages will be available for shoppers. 

• Bite-Sized Bookworms, a storytime for kids 3-6 years old, is offered every Tuesday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. and every Thursday from 10:45-11:30 a.m. Free and no registration required.

• Tiny Tales, a storytime for ages 6 months-35 months, is offered every Wednesday from 9:30-10 a.m. Free and no registration required.

• Music and Movement storytime is offered every Wednesday from 1-1:45 p.m. for kids age 3-6 years old. Free and no registration required.

• A “Not Your Mother’s Yoga” class is offered every Thursday from 9:15-10:15 a.m. This free class is for anyone 18 and older, and registration is recommended.

• Genealogy assistance is available to patrons every Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m.

• Third Thursday Throwback will be held March 19 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The theme for this month’s event is “Air Heads Balloon Crafts”. All ages are invited to participate. Registration is appreciated by calling the library. 

• Chrisney Pacemakers Walking Club will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5-6 p.m. Everyone is welcome; children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Free delivery services are available for all Lincoln Heritage Public Library area homebound residents in North Spencer. Patrons may request large print books, paperbacks, books on CD, music CDs, magazines, word puzzles and DVDs, as well as items for the visually impaired — all at no cost. Miscellaneous

Dale Kiwanis’ 31st annual “All You Can Eat” Pancake Breakfast scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed and rescheduled for Saturday, April 18, due to Heritage Hills High School participating in basketball regionals that morning. Any tickets already purchased will be honored on the new date. The breakfast on April 18 will be held at Dale United Methodist Church, located at 1 West Elm Street in Dale. Breakfast will include sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and drinks. Proceeds from this breakfast will benefit the youth of our community. Serving will begin at 6 a.m. and continue until 9:30 a.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Kiwanis member or at the door the morning of the breakfast. 

Abe Lincoln American Legion Post 444 in Dale will have its monthly cookout on Saturday, March 21. Half of a barbecue chicken can be purchased for $9, and meals with barbecue ribs are $10; both include creek fries and baked beans. Baby back ribs will also be available for purchase for $20. A rummage sale will be held March 26-28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Short 4th and Washington Streets, in the Activity Center Gym in Huntingburg. Sale hours will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, March 26; from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, March 27; and from 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28. Donated items may be taken to the Activity Center Gym between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. from Friday, March 20 to Wednesday, March 25. All times listed are Eastern. Ten percent of the profit will be given to Shared Abundance Food Pantry and Thrift Store in Huntingburg.
