Jerome “Jerry” Dale Buxton, of Chrisney, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital surrounded by family on January 20, 2026.

Jerry was born November 28, 1951 to James and Minnie (Beasley) Buxton in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Jerry spent 40 plus years in the aluminum industry retiring from Commonwealth Aluminum. Jerry had an uncommon dedication to work, with an exemplary work ethic that was hard to match.

Jerry loved to hunt animals of all kinds and loved to fish. He was a champion fisherman, and passed his love of fishing to his fishing buddy and granddaughter Hannah who was the reason he awakened every day. Jerry also enjoyed metal detecting and being in the woods hunting for mushrooms.

Jerry was also a collector and loved a good auction. He attended many over 30-plus years. His collections and likes were many, from collecting sports memorabilia to Civil War and Native American artifacts. He also enjoyed watching his Indiana Hoosiers play basketball, and being in the kitchen cooking a great meal.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers, Raymond Buxton and David Buxton.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce “J.B.” Buxton; daughter, Misty Baker (Shawn); granddaughter, Hannah Baker; brothers, James L. Buxton (Leslie), Stephen M. Buxton (Deanna), and William C. Buxton (Marsha); along with many other nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Service for Jerry will be Thursday, January 29, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Chrisney, with Mass starting at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in Chrisney.

Visitation for Jerry will be held at Boultinghouse Funeral Home Youngblood Chapel in Chrisney on January 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary service being held at 6:30 p.m.

The family has asked that donations be made to the St. Martin Cemetery Fund and also The Way of Rockport.
