Stanley “Bomber” Herron, 69, of Rockport passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Bomber was born September 7, 1956, to Wallace and Betty (Rininger) Herron in Tell City.

Bomber was a heavy equipment operator by trade and worked for many different companies throughout the years. Bomber took his love of operating and applied it to serving Spencer County as its County Surveyor for two terms.

Bomber loved to hunt, mainly coon, and deer. He was a member of the Spencer County Coon Club for many years; he was also a member of the French Island Marina Boat Club and a member of the Rockport American Legion Post 254 as a Sons of the American Legion.

Many would say that Bomber was a social butterfly as you would always find him telling a story or a great joke to anyone who would listen, he never met a stranger and had the biggest heart of gold.

Bomber was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carrie Herron, and sister Kathy Bolen.

Bomber is survived by his son, Dustin Herron (Paige); grandson, Jettzyn Herron; brother Randy Herron (Michelle); Uncle Jimmy Ringinger (Sherry); nephews, Cody Herron (Kendra), Bryan Lester (Tommy Sue); nieces, Amber Roth (Justin), Mandy Majors (Matt) and Becky Jones (Donald); granddaughter, Breanna Knies (Kendra); grandson, Jayvin Thewes; along with many other extended family members and friends.

Services for Bomber will be Friday January 9, 2 p.m., at Boultinghouse Funeral Home 527 Main St. Rockport. Pastors Carl Jones and Tim Coomer will officiate. Burial will follow at Hackelman Cemetery in Chrisney.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
