Virginia A. Prechtel, age 85, of Jasper, passed away at 6:44 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Virginia was born in St. Meinrad on April 4, 1941, to Henry and Ludwina (Bumm) Schaefer. She married Charles Sitzman on December 28, 1957. He preceded her in death in 1984. She married Harold Prechtel on June 21, 1986, in Holy Family Catholic Church.
Virginia worked in wood manufacturing companies for 25 years. She then began her own ironing business.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She enjoyed embroidery, working on puzzles, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Harold Prechtel, Jasper; three children, Debbie (Terry) Brothers, Petersburg, Donna (Terry) Streicher, Jasper and Dee Ann (Gary) Ferguson, Lincoln City; three step-children, Michelle (Bob) Johnson, Kristy Benson and Tracy Prechtel; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alice Neihaus, Ann Hoffman and Carol (Ralph) Goepner.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Sitzman and one daughter, Denise Sitzman who died in infancy.
A Mass of Christian burial for Virginia A. Prechtel was held on Monday, August 17, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lange Fuhs Cancer Center, or a favorite charity.
