An exhibit of work by the Patoka Valley Quilter’s Guild will be on display at the Krempp Gallery in Jasper (951 College Avenue) from August 1-29. Many exquisite quilts and pieces of fiber art will be featured in the exhibit. The work represents a wide variety of techniques from traditional pieced and appliquéd quilts, machine and hand stitched, to some cutting-edge art and decorative pieces. The Patoka Valley Quilter’s Guild currently has more than eighty members from the area, including Spencer County. Krempp Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday from 12-3 p.m. For more information, call 812-482-3070.
Friday After 5, Owensboro’s free summer concert series, continues this Friday, August 2. Juice Box Heroes will perform from 6:30-10 p.m. on the Jagoe Homes Patio Stage at the BB&T Plaza, located at the RiverPark Center. Moon Lighters will perform acoustic music from 7-10 p.m. in the Atmos Energy Courtyard. And Fat Box will bring an alternative jam blend to the Kentucky Legend Pier from 8-11:30 p.m.
First Friday at Haynie’s Corner in downtown Evansville (corner of 2nd Street and Adams Avenue) will be held this Friday, August 2. The event is a monthly celebration of arts and culture in the Haynie’s Corner Arts District. Enjoy art, live music, beautiful architecture, street performers, delicious food and drink samplings while perusing through art galleries, historic buildings and unique boutique and retail spaces. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 9 p.m. the first Friday of every month through October.
Ben and Noel Haggard, sons of country music legend Merle Haggard, will perform in concert at Lincoln Amphitheatre in Lincoln City on Saturday, August 10. Doors open at 5 p.m., opening act Abigail Rose will perform at 6:30 p.m., and Ben and Noel Haggard will take the stage at 7:30. Beginner’s Sewing – Level 2 class will be held at Traditional Arts Today in Ferdinand on Saturday, August 17 from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. EDT. The class will be taught by Deb Souders and Patti Schroeder and is designed for those with basic sewing experience or who have taken previous sewing classes. Participants who complete the class will leave with a newly learned talent and a finished pillow case. Fabric and a sewing kit with all supplies needed will be provided. Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery is currently hosting an exhibit of icons and drawings by Br. Michael Moran, CP, through August 30. Br. Michael is proficient in many media, but one of his specialties is painting icons, which are very stylized, flat and almost two-dimensional when compared to their western cousins. Usually painted on wooden panels with gold leaf backgrounds and halos, icons are colorful. Dale United Methodist Church, located at 1 West Elm Street in Dale, is having a church-wide rummage sale on Thursday, August 1 from 4-7 p.m.; Friday, August 2 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday, August 3 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. For sale will be clothing for men, women and children; books; household items; shoes; purses; CDs; electronics; furniture; and lots of miscellaneous items. All items will be priced to sell. Proceeds will benefit church missions projects.
The annual Historic St. Boniface Catholic Church Summer Picnic will be held Sunday, August 4, beginning at 10 a.m. on the church grounds at Fulda. The event will feature games, musical entertainment, guided tours of the church, raffles and plenty of food, including Fulda’s famous soup. Shuttle service, handicap parking on the north side of the church, shaded grounds, and air-conditioned dining will be available all day.
Community Table, a mission ministry of Dale Presbyterian Church, serves a free meal year round, every Thursday evening except holidays, at the Micah Center, 6 North Main St. in Dale. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., meal served 5:30-6:30 p.m., doors close at 7 p.m.
Trinity United Methodist Church is seeking mementos such as photographs, quilts and other items associated with the church in preparation for the 150th year anniversary of the main sanctuary’s construction. Clubs and Meetings
Spencer County Retired Teachers will meet Thursday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, located at 1407 IN-70 CR 800 N in Chrisney. The meeting will include a luncheon and will include introduction of new officers, new retirees, and the honoring of any recently deceased retirees. Speakers will be members of the Stenftenagel Group who were project managers for recent renovations and projects at South Spencer High School and in the North Spencer School Corporation. The meal will be prepared by the ladies at Cornerstone Church. Free childhood immunizations will be offered by the Spencer County Health Department on Tuesday, August 6 from 8-10 a.m. at the Community Action Center in Dale and on Thursday, August 8 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Health Department in Rockport. Appointments are preferred by calling 812-649-4441. Bring your child’s shot record and insurance card to file your insurance.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Evansville, in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, will be holding free classes on mental illness beginning Monday, September 9 at Old North United Methodist Church (4201 Stringtown Road in Evansville). Classes will be held for 11 consecutive Mondays and will run from 6:45-9 p.m. each week. Participants will gain skills and information regarding a variety of mental illnesses. Spencer County Council on Aging provides a SWIRCA meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday in the Lincoln Manor Community Room, 714 Sycamore St., Rockport. Suggested donation is $3.50 for those 60 and older. Food stamps are accepted. Reservations must be called in 24 hours in advance at 812-649-9828. The meal site is closed on Fridays. Activities such as bingo and games are scheduled throughout the month after lunch.

• Adult patrons (18 and older) are invited to a Road Map Birdhouse class from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, August 5. Participants will create their own birdhouses using maps. Registration is requested by calling the library. All materials will be provided by Dale Friends of LHPL.
• A “Not Your Mother’s Yoga” class will be offered every Thursday in August from 9:15-10:15 a.m. This free class is for anyone 18 and older, and registration is recommended.

• “It’s Your Turn” Outdoor Fun and Games will be offered at the library on Tuesday, August 6. The 1-3 p.m. program is for kids 3-10 years old, while the 4-5 p.m. program is for kids 11-16 years old. The event includes a mix of outdoor toys and games, including bubbles, sidewalk chalk, cornhole, jump ropes, parachute, frisbees, hopscotch, life size board games, scavenger hunts and more.
• Kids 3-12 years are invited to participate in Rhythm Makers S.T.E.A.M. Challenges at the library on Wednesday, August 7 from 1-3 p.m. Participants will have access to numerous S.T.E.A.M. building kits with challenges.
