It was a beautiful, crisp weekend for a music festival, and Grandview’s Monster Mash River Bash made good use of it at the boat dock. If the cooler months are a time for looking back on good times and making some new ones, that was certainly accomplished.
Friday’s big theme centered on the song, “Grandview”, by Bobby Clark and John Mellencamp. Awards were presented to the two singers in honor of their contribution to the town’s legacy. The crystal plaques were provided courtesy of Logos in Tell City.
Clark accepted for both as Mellencamp could not attend. He then offered a performance of “Grandview” alongside MellenCougar, a Mellencamp tribute band.
There was plenty of other talent on the stage down by the river throughout Friday and Saturday. Even the emcee, Steve Bridgmon, is probably familiar to music fans. The Owensboro native was recently named Inspirational Country Music Association’s Male Vocalist of the Year at the ICMA Awards, which took place at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee.
Bridgmon joked that the Opry House ran a rather tight ship, keeping to a schedule “by the second”. He was grateful to be working in a small-town atmosphere where a spare minute here or there would go without complaint. Bridgmon might also be recognized by his many public appearances, including singing the National Anthem at the October 12 Lakers game.
Those who use Spotify to curate a soundtrack for their life could do well to check out some of the singers on the schedule. Many of the bands present in Grandview are well represented there.
Scott Lindsey, one of the first to perform on Friday, even debuted a new single that just launched on Spotify that very day.
Many music fans decided to make a weekend of it, camping overnight in the riverside park. The park slowly filled with campers Friday as people settled in for a weekend of fun. In time, perhaps some of those who traveled to attend the music festival will follow Clark and Mellencamp’s advice.
When the bash is over, I’ll tell you what I’m going to do
I got my trailer picked out, gonna move it down to Grandview
