Standing: Ray Springston, Danny Schum, Gene Simpson, David Gripenstroh, Steve Walker, Coach Cawood.

Coach Jim Marshall and his Holland Dutchman will invade the Dale Golden Aces goalhouse Friday night for the opening game of the season for Dale. Holland has a pair of games already tucked under their belts, including a 47-44 win over Mackey and a 70-57 lost to Ireland.

Holland has graduated high scoring Ronnie Kamman, along with Charles Seibe, but the Dutchmen has begun their rebuilding last stage last year and retained the services of 6-4 sophomore Jerry Bueltel, 6-1 Don Sibrel, 5-6 Rich Kamman, 6-2 Steve Stamp, 5-10 Cletus Mehringer and Fred Schmett 6-0, all juniors. Senior Gary Meyer 5-9, is also returning. Most of last years season’s scoring punch came from Ron Kamman, but the rangy center, Bueltel began developing his ablity as a freshie and will be around for three more seasons. Rich Kamman, Siebrel and Steve Stamp were also heave figures in the score column last season.

For Dale it will be a new face at the head of the deck. Coach Jim Cawood is not new in the coaching circles, and not an unfamiliar face to Dale fans who will remember him as the capable coach of the Dubois Jeeps. He steps in to defend an 18-4 season record. This will require much effort on the part of the coach and team who will also be defending an undefeated PAC record. Holland has not defeated sale since the 1961-62 season when the Dutchmen slipped in a 74-64 win.

From Left: Roger Guth, Bill Painter, Steve Walker.

Returning for the Golden Aces will be Senior lettermen Steve Walker 6-0, Ray Sprinston 5-11, Ward Weber, 5-9; juniors Roger Guth 6-0, and Bill Painter 6-1. Rounding out these returning lettermen will be seniors Dan Schum 5-11, and John Were 6-0; juniors Vernon Dilger 5-9, Randy Flamion 5-8, Dave Gripenstroh 6-1, David Hevron 6-1, Steve Kress 5-9, John Schroder 6-2 and J.D. Springston 5-11. Sophomores Mac Jones 5-9, Jim Mehling 5-10and Gene Simpson 6-2, plus Ron Estes 5-10 freshie round out the Roster of the Golden Aces for 1964-65.

Lost through graduation are 5-11 Stan Guth and Dick Walker 6-1 who each scored over 350 points last season. Guth will be missed for his scoring punch and play-making, while Walker will be missed for his scoring power and tremendous defensive strength. Dennis Weber, Larry Estes and Roger Forler were very good team men and are also lost via graduation.

Preliminary contest will get underway at 6:30 p.m. EST, with the varsity contest set for 8 o’clock. Officials will be Bertram and Holland.
